Water softening is the reduction of the concentration of calcium, magnesium, and certain other metal cations in hard water.

These “hardness ions” can cause a variety of undesired effects including interfering with the action of soaps, the build up of limescale, which can foul plumbing, and galvanic corrosion. Water softening may be desirable where the source of water is hard. However, hard water also conveys some benefits to health by reducing the solubility of potentially toxic metal ions such as lead and copper.

UniSoft Hydrus

The Hydrus valve is a multi-port valve that controls system flow through a single tank, however, it is designed to inherently link to other Hydrus valves, thus easily expanding to multi-tank configurations.




In some European countries resin disinfection has become a mandatory requirement for softeners used for potable water treatment. Even when regulations are not an issue, periodic resin disinfection is recommended in order to avoid bacteria growth and related pollution of treated water.


Guldager’s Steril-Soft automatic disinfection systems for water softeners produce active chlorine through brine electrolysis during softener regeneration. Chlorine comes in contact with resin together with the brine and realizes sanitization. The chlorine residual is washed out at the end of regeneration (rinse cycle).
